Learning through play
Ladybird Lane Nursery is open Monday – Friday between 8am and 6pm. There is no set time of arrival, but we would prefer children to arrive by 9:00am for the morning session or 1:30pm for the afternoon session, to allow them to share and enjoy planned learning opportunities with their peers (such as circle time and register time) that they will miss if they arrive too late. Our aim is to provide a good balance of free play and more structured activities in an environment that flow freely between the indoors and outdoors as much as possible.
See below an example of what our day might include:
Following our philosophy ‘Learning through Play’ we feel it is vital to create opportunities for free play throughout the day. This allows for the development of critical thinking, imaginative play and fine and gross motor skills which we believe fosters a love of learning and enables children to express their emotions and feelings, and to develop a sense of who they are.
Our Early Years Teacher provides planned activities for the pre-school children to develop their emerging early writing skills, explore phonics and work with key mathematical concepts.
If at any time you feel anxious in the initial days or weeks, we want you to feel comfortable to phone the nursery to ask how your child is as many times as you want; we understand that this could be a difficult time for you, especially if this the first time your child has attended nursery. Be assured that we will never allow your child to leave the nursery with anyone who has not been authorised to collect them on that day, so if for whatever reason you are unable to collect them, you must inform the nursery. If we need to contact you for any reason such as, your child being unwell or unsettled your child’s key worker will immediately be in touch to inform you and to discuss what action needs to be taken for the well-being of your child and in line with our sickness policy (see policies).
